How much do Luxor Temple tickets cost?
In order to access the Luxor Temple, you’ll need to purchase an entrance ticket, which costs EGP180 (US$6) per person for foreigners and EGP40 (US$1) per person for Egyptians/Arabs. This ticket allows you access to the temple for the entire day.
Who is eligible for discounts?
Students are eligible for discounted Luxor Temple tickets, at a reduced rate of EGP90 (US$3) per person. Egyptian/Arab students pay EGP20 (US$0.65) per person.
Students will need to present valid identification, preferably a student card, in order to receive this discount.
Should you book in advance?
While you can purchase your tickets at the onsite ticket office on the day of your visit, it's always advisable to book your tickets in advance in case of queues at the office or large crowds on the day.

What will you see inside?
Luxor Temple provides an insightful glimpse of what Ancient Egypt was like. Built thousands of years ago, the temple complex has been incredibly well-preserved and still has many of its original features in place.
The temple was used as a venue for a variety of religious celebrations, including the Opet Festival. Built only 3 kilometers south of the Karnak Temple, Luxor Temple actually faces the Karnak Temple and the two were once linked with a procession of sphinxes.
You’ll notice that the temple is surrounded by a huge fort, which was built by the Romans. The Romans also built a number of rooms and sanctuaries throughout the complex. Unfortunately, they also covered some of the wall reliefs with plaster.
The first thing that you’ll see as you enter the temple is two massive towers that form the entrance of the temple. Once you make your way through this entranceway, you’ll see a wide variety of large statues, pylons, rooms and gates.
One of the highlights of visiting Luxor Temple is seeing the incredible relief artworks throughout the complex, one of which is known as the Divine Birth and which tells the story of the king’s true father and how he came to be.
There are also courtyards and many places to relax and take photos to commemorate the time you spent at this incredible temple.
How to get there?
Luxor Temple is located in the city of Luxor, on the east bank of the Nile River. The temple is conveniently located in close proximity to other major attractions, such as the Luxor Museum, and can easily be reached by taxi, car or public transport.
A taxi is probably the best way to get from your hotel to Luxor Temple as they are relatively cheap and eliminate the need for you to navigate the public transport system, which can be confusing for newcomers.
If you are staying on the west bank, it is very simple and affordable to take a ferry to the east bank, where the Luxor Temple is located.
What are the opening times?
Luxor Temple is open every day between 6 AM and 8 PM. The last tickets are sold 30 minutes before closing time, but you’ll want to have at least an hour to explore the incredible temple complex in full.
Is it wheelchair friendly?
The Luxor Temple is wheelchair friendly, but you may require some help in certain sections. Notify your tour provider of your needs at the time of booking to make sure there is a wheelchair-adapted vehicle available.
When is the best time to visit?
